Vegas Elite Cleaners offers free cleanings for elderly veterans. Learn about their impactful stories and how to participate in this meaningful program.
Veterans are one of the most important demographics in the US. Being one myself, this statement might be slightly biased. Those who have fought and defended this great nation, deserves a little more than what we are given. But that is a whole other story.
As we age and get older, obviously our ability to do regular tasks when we were younger, become harder and harder by the day. At Vegas Elite Cleaners, we started a new program where we clean a senior veteran's home for FREE. This past couple weeks, I had the honor and privilege of helping out a couple of Veterans with cleaning their home. This is about our first recipient.
Gary Martin, a US Army Veteran, who served during the Vietnam War, was the first recipient of our first cleaning. He was just recently deemed legally blind due to complications around a bout of glaucoma. He also suffers from COPD and emphysema, just to name a few ailments. He is also just on Social Security and on fixed income. Because he did not sustain any injuries during the Vietnam War, he does not receive VA disability pay.
With the help of a couple volunteers, we were able to clean up him small, senior apartment in a couple hours. I want to thank Lynn and Donna for helping me that day. Without them, I would've never been able to do it on my own. After a couple hours, I get a text from Lynn, his friend who helped me clean, saying Gary was "THRILLED" with the results. To say I was happy to hear that is an understatement. So I came up with a plan.
Touched by his story, I went to my social media pages and asked for donations for Gary. Gary had no idea I had come up with this plan. I told his story to everyone and made a few videos about it all. Many were touched by the story. Being this was my first time doing a fundraiser and event like this, I was able to raise $750 for him. What an accomplishment!!! I was over the moon.
A week later, I was able to present the money to him. Lynn and I came up with a story on why I was back to visit him. We said I was there to record a video of him giving a testimonial of his experience. He was happy to oblige. As he thanked me for my hard work, I brought up the surprise of $750. Gary was speechless. He didn't know what to say. I explained everything and he was "flabbergasted." Me too Gary. He later asked if I was going to help other veterans as well. I told him yes and what happened next blew me away even more. Without hesitation, he offered up $50 of the money he just received to the next veteran we were helping.
Touched by this gesture, I had one more surprise for him. I offered him free cleanings of his apartment on a monthly basis for the next year. I am offering to pay out of pocket myself for his cleanings. Again, he was speechless. He thanked me over and over, showing the utmost gratitude.
Finally, with his permission, I asked if I could create a GoFundMe for him. He accepted and have been receiving donations through a page I created for him. Currently, we have $220 in donations for him.
To everyone who has seen and supported this new project, thank you is not enough. Just know that I am beyond grateful to everyone who supported this from the start. Please keep supporting the cause and spread the word.
THANK YOU!
